Fall 2024 was a season of growth, collaboration, and impactful initiatives, thanks to the dedication of our exemplary GWISE E-Board members and volunteers. GWISE reinforced its commitment to fostering an inclusive and empowering environment for graduate students in STEM, through professional development sessions and community outreach & social events. The semester began with orientations to introduce incoming students to the GWISE community.
The Science & Society: Science Advocacy for Public Health event brought thought-provoking health policy discussions, expert talks, and a dynamic hackathon. This initiative highlighted the importance of scientific voices in shaping public health discourse and policies. Career growth is a cornerstone of the GWISE mission and the Beyond the Resume event helped students polish their behavioral interview skills through engaging mock interview scenarios. The Alumni Career Panel organized by Emma offered attendees invaluable insights into confidently navigating life after graduate school.
GWISE believes in the power of community. From the Welcome Mixer organized by Priyanka, where students connected over ice cream, to the fun and creative Pumpkin Painting GBM, our social events provided much-needed breaks from rigorous academic schedules. The Hike to Middlesex Fells Reservation by Vanshika was a much-needed respite for students, fostering friendships while embracing wellness.
Members volunteered at Community Servings, preparing and delivering nutritious meals to critically ill patients. Additionally, the team participated in Making Strides Boston, a breast cancer awareness walk, showcasing solidarity with survivors and contributing to crucial cancer research initiatives. Both events have become integral to GWISE and continue to see increased participation and interest each year.
From the CPA Collab to the GBBA collaboration, the organization worked with various student groups to expand opportunities for members. At the COE Student Club Showcase, GWISE members connected with potential employers and industry professionals, strengthening its network within the STEM community. As the semester wrapped up, GWISE hosted its General Body Meeting & Elections, setting the stage for the next cohort of leaders to continue our mission.
Leading this organization has been an honor, and I am continually inspired by the passion, dedication, and resilience of our team. Anvitha, your unwavering support and patience throughout our planning and execution, even during some late-night calls, ensured every event’s success. Working alongside you and witnessing your leadership has been an absolute privilege. Anvi, your drive as vice president helped push our initiatives forward; Lluvia and Reshma, your careful management of funds ensured our events thrived. None of this would have been possible without you!
As we look forward to Spring 2025, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to the incredible GWISE E-Board and community members who made Fall 2024 truly special. Here’s to another year of growth, empowerment, and meaningful change!
Stay connected, stay inspired, and keep making an impact!
All the Best,
Sakshi Bubna
